Are games of chance in which no gambling is involved halal?

Question by Smiley: Are games of chance in which no gambling is involved halal?
My workplace is having a social event, in which they will have soft drinks, snacks, and gambling type games. They will be handing out prizes, but the attendees do not pay anything.

What are the rulings on playing games of chance? Is a Muslim allowed the same chance of accepting randomly distributed gifts as a non-Muslim, or must we oppose the games because they are associated with gambling, which is haram?

i think it should be fine. sounds something like a raffle. its just saying the winner gets a prize. thats halal.

  1. no thats not gambling because you are not spending any money on it. Have fun! and i hope u win!

  2. Yes it’s still haraam.

  3. asmaa(it s a girl)

    theres nothing wrong with that
if your not puting your money down then it s ok

  4. Gambling is a ‘win or lose’ game. In the instance cited, it appears to be a mere fun, not gambling which is haram because one man’s gain is another man’s loss. ‘Haram’ is a very harsh term to apply in all such cases. There could be a lesser term if it may be advisable to avoid such games which may have a remote resemblance to gambling. Allah knows better. “WaLlah o a’alam”.

By default, everything is Halal in Islam – Unless specified in Qur’an and / or Hadith as Haram.
    1. The gifts they are distributing should be halal
    2. The game should be not a promotion for some haram product or organised by any anti-Islamic organisation
    3. There should be no intermingling of sexes in that event
    4. The event should be not a breeding ground of gossips, lies and abuses.
    5. And finally the event should not be during the times of 5 prayers so that people will prefer the event rather than a prayer..

I think this formula answers your question…..
