I’d use a program called Ad-Aware, its excellent for removing things of this sort. It can be found at www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

Does an Icon for Spytrooper or some sort of spyware message appears? Typically, with this bar, I’ve seen cases, a fake microsoft balloon type message says you’ve infected with spyware, click here to fix this…you do so, and Spytrooper runs…you think its cleaning your system, but its redirecting your IP to a “bad” site, and your information is being stolen…you have a Virus…and so far, the top anti-virus makes, Panda, F-Secure, Trend, and others…can’t help you…it looks like you may have to reformat the drive and reinstall the system…often, these come from porn sites…they are magnets for viruses…sadly, people just don’t say this…they say, “it just came from nowhere!” I work in IT security/networking…I see this often. Oh, one way to kill the tread, is to do “ctrl, alt, delete”, run the processes…open MS IE and google. Copy the process name and search it in google. Verify if it is a true process; google will answer if the tread belongs to a virus, a spy bar…by ending it, it will go away, only to restart at the next time you power on the pc because it may be infected in your Registry…Its just bad news, reformat, not systems restore, is the way I have solved such things!
Before you consider formatting, make sure that the toolbar can’t be turned off in your browser. On IE, for instance, you would click View -> Toolbars & look at which ones are checked. If you find it in there, uncheck it & see if that takes care of your problem.
True, you may have a virus & have no choice but to reformat if there’s no work-around for it yet but I wouldn’t reformat until you are certain of it since it can be a big pain to undertake
Just my opinion, of course. If you do have to reformat, be sure to see if you can back up any of your sensitive data before you do it…
