What are the pros and cons to indian gambling/casinos?

Answer by UrbanPhotos
I’ve only been to two American Indian owned casinos (Chinook Winds and Spirit Mountain in Oregon).

When Chinook Winds first opened they were dealing single deck blackjack but you had to PAY 25 cents to play each hand!

Overall the odds are much worse for players than they are in Reno or Las Vegas.

I don’t think there are any pros. The IRS still gets you if you win.

  1. I don’t know if you mean PROS and CONS for players, for the Indian tribes, or for the State as a whole.

PROS for the players usually means you can gamble by driving only tens or hundreds of miles. The odds are often much worse than Reno and Las Vegas, but that is changing in some cases. Santa Ana casino outside of Albuqurque had been offering special games with no house edge which don’t even exist in Vegas.

The Indian tribes are becoming very very wealthy. They can afford luxuries and celebrate their culture.

The States do not have much choice since the original treaties were with the federal government, usually before the 20th century. They benefit by some added employment and occasionally generous charitable contributions that the tribes make to try and keep the good will of the people. Personally, I don’t think the states should tolerate this monopoly, and should just legalize gaming.

  2. lowsy odds. no legel rites. Vegas is betterr.
